We're less than two months away from the debut of The Suicide Squad, and the DC film has already done a lot to get fans hyped. After debuting two trailers earlier this year, fans have been clamoring for a new look at the film, and social media posts from writer and director James Gunn seemed to hint that it could be arriving sooner than later.
While this requires fans to do a bit more legwork to track down the new The Suicide Squad trailer, it certainly seems like it will be worth it, as the new footage provides more insight into the unconventional DC Comics ensemble. The trailer also provides new looks at the film's surprise villain, iconic Justice League foe Starro, as well as a number of zany aspects of the film.
The movie sees the squad being recruited by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) on a mission to destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory. Along the way, they run into some massive obstacles — including Starro, the telepathic, skyscraper-tall starfish.
Newcomers to the team will include John Cena as Peacemaker, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Alice Braga as Sul Soria, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2,Nathan Fillion as T.D.K., Mayling Ng as Mongal, Michael Rooker as Savant, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Peter Capaldi as Thinker, Sean Gunn as Weasel and Flula Borg as Javelin. “Suicide Squad” creator John Ostrander will also appear as Dr. Fitzgibbon, while “Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Watiti has also been cast in an undisclosed role.
We are then given a quick run-through of the new Suicide Squad — and once together in the plane that will take them to Corto Maltese, they instantly start poking fun at Weasel (Sean Gunn), whom they mistake for a dog and a werewolf. The Suicide Squad trailer has a couple of toilet humour jokes, which is kind of low hanging fruit for a writer-director in Gunn who has shown himself to be much smarter with two entries of Guardians of the Galaxy in DC's rival Marvel camp. The rest of The Suicide Squad trailer is largely made up of action snippets.
“The Suicide Squad” will open on Aug. 6 in theaters and on HBO Max for 30 days.
